About Six Sigma
With our global head office based in Milan, Italy, and direct operations in the world’s 38 most important eyewear markets, we are structured as a group of regional businesses in Australasia and South Africa, China and Japan, the Americas, UK / Europe and the Middle East. We own or license, market and distribute an impressive, international portfolio of premium and luxury optical and sun brands. Our brand portfolio currently has eight house brands and 19 license brands.
We dominate the wholesale market worldwide (30% of our business) and are the leader in the retail market in North America, China, Hong Kong Australia and New Zealand (70% of our business). The Group’s products are designed and manufactured in six Italy-based high-quality manufacturing plants including a dedicated lens R&D and manufacturing facility, and the only two China-based plants wholly owned by a premium eyewear manufacturer. We also have 1 manufacturing plant in India.

The development of the Luxottica family of companies in Australasia is the result of a number of strategic acquisitions. Australasia is managed centrally from North Ryde, Sydney and supported by offices in Auckland, Cape Town, Hong Kong and Singapore. Supporting our retail network, there are a number of departments that help make our goals a reality. Our shared services centre is home to important group functions such as HR, Finance, Property, Marketing and Product.
Luxottica Australia is the wholesale arm of Luxottica Group in Australia. Our Wholesale customer base is made up of 5000 clients including independent optometrists, sunglass boutiques, and corporate accounts such as Myer, David Jones, Downtown Duty Free stores, optical chains, and surf/sport stores.
Most of the brands designed by Luxottica Group in Italy are represented in Australia. The product range is imported directly from our facilities in Italy on a weekly basis and the Sydney-based Distribution Centre dispatches orders across our region daily.

Eyebiz is our state of the art laboratory, Eyebiz which is located in South West Sydney and regarded internationally as one of the best of its kind. Established in 1998, the Centre is critical to the successful operation of the Australian and New Zealand businesses. There are approximately 300 people from over 20 different cultural backgrounds working across three shifts.
Our Distribution Centre is located in South Western Sydney. The DC supports the Luxottica-owned retail store network delivering stock throughout Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore ensuring that the latest fashion frames and sunglasses are available to meet customer demands. Additionally, the DC services over 5,000 wholesale customers throughout the year.
The Direct Online business provides our customers with more flexible options for doing business with us. Customers can purchase disposable contact lenses, sunglasses, contact lens solutions and accessories through our respective brands web sites.
Vision Services are a dedicated team responsible for developing and maintaining contractual agreements for the supply of glasses to corporate groups.
With over 2500 agreements, this business is largely made up of the prescription safety eyewear sector. They also manage Government, insurance and health fund arrangements for the supply of non safety glasses for all Australian and New Zealand stores.

Our manufacturing operation, Eyebiz, is committed to the protection of our environment and has demonstrated this through the implementation of two water-recycling systems and a waste collection system. The water recycling systems provide 99.9% efficiency of recycled water used for the Grind generators and the edging and finishing facilities.
The implementation of the waste collection systems has enabled the collection and recycling of polycarbonate and CR39 lens waste, and general paper and cardboard. Both of these initiatives have provided cost benefits to the organisation.
Lucottica has had Lean Six Sigma as core to our manufacturing process for some years. In 2007, we took that program, which we call OpEx, out into the mainstream of our operations. In just that short time, we’ve instigated a full belt accreditation process, completed business-changing projects, improved core processes that affect every store and implemented a company-wide awareness program that touches every colleague. Our OpEx success is quickly becoming a benchmark for the leaders in this field, and something we’re very proud of. When you’re already an industry leader in your own field, to continuously improve, means you’re setting the standard everyone will have to follow, and the shaping the future everyone will have to respond to.
